Dear Colleagues,

It is our pleasure to announce that the 11th International Workshop on Fast Ignition of Fusion Targets (FIW 2010) will be held in the Xuhui campus of Shanghai Jiao Tong University during October 17-21, 2010. It is located in the downtown Shanghai, easily accessed from both the Shanghai Pudong International Airport and Hongqiao International Airport by subway.

Following previous workshops of this series, the topics of this workshop will concentrate on the fast ignition relevant physics and technologies, including ignition requirements and gain of FI targets, hydrodynamics of fuel assembly, relativistic laser-plasma interactions and electron source characteristics, fast-electron transport and magnetic collimation, laser-generated ion beams, diagnostics, fast ignition concepts, integrated fast-ignition simulations and point designs for high gain, applications of fast ignition. Abstracts for the workshop are due by July 30, 2010.

For the format of the workshop, we expect there will be oral presentations, poster presentations, and free discussions led by some experts on some specific topics. In addition to the scientific program, our FIW 2010 shall provide you the unique chance to visit the EXPO 2010 park in Shanghai, which is expected to be one of the most important events in China this year.

A poster for the conference is attached to this email. Please print it out and post it on your institution's bulletin board to remind you and your colleagues about the workshop. A conference web site will be available soon at http://ips.sjtu.edu.cn/fiw2010/. It will provide important information regarding registration, abstract submission, hotel arrangements, transportation, activities, and Chinese visa issue, etc.

We look forward to seeing you in Shanghai in October 2010!

Sincerely,

Jie Zhang, FIW 2010 Conference Organizing Chairman
